Small Arms

The Small Arms specializations governs personal firearms, including pistols, shotguns, and rifles.

Increase the difficulty by 1 for each additional range category within the effective range of the weapon.

Increase the difficulty by 2 for each additional range category beyond the effective range of the weapon, up to a maximum range of 2 categories beyond the effective range.

Effect The target suffers an injury with a severity of 1. Increase the severity by 1 for each additional skill success. Determine the location by rolling 2d6:

Base difficulty 1, for range categories up to the effective range of the weapon.
Increase the difficulty by 1 for each range category beyond the effective range of the weapon, up to a maximum of 2 categories beyond the effective range.
If targeting a group of characters, increase the difficulty by 1 for each area category beyond Adjacent.

Equipment A ranged weapon firing in semi-automatic or automatic mode (standard equipment)
A ranged weapon firing in single fire mode (poor equipment)
Effect Increase the difficulty of ranged attacks by the target by 1. If using automatic fire, increase the difficulty by a further point for each additional skill success.
Critical failure The firearm misfires.

Base difficulty By the best available evidence:
Evidence Difficulty
The firearm, able to be physically inspected 1
Sight and sound of an active shooter using the firearm (in person or recorded) 2
A detailed description of the firearm from an eyewitness 3
A description of the firing (but not the weapon itself) from an eyewitness and physical evidence including bullet impacts and shell casings 4

Increase the difficulty by the rarity of the weapon.
Increase the difficulty by the complexity of any modifications made to the weapon.

Base attention As a knowledge check.
Equipment As a knowledge check.
Effect Identify the firearm, including any modifications. This is a knowledge check.

If you fail to meet the difficulty but meet the difficulty minus the complexity of modifications, you identify the base weapon, and that it has been modified.

If you fail to meet the difficulty but meet the difficulty minus the rarity and complexity of modifications, you identify the class of weapon (pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, etc.)
